Honoring America's Veterans
WHAT IS A GUARDIAN and WHO QUALIFIES
The Western ND Honor Flight will have dedicated Honor Flight volunteers and medical staff available and ready to assist if you need extra help during the trip.
Veterans can request to have a personal guardian accompany them on the trip to assist in their specific mobility or medical needs. Guardians must be in good physical shape, capable of handling your carry-on luggage (no checked bags), be able to assist you with a wheelchair, if needed, and be fully aware of your medical needs and medications.
Unfortunately, the Honor Flight guidelines state that spouses, significant others, partners, or fiancées are not eligible to serve as Guardians. This is a policy required of all Honor Flight hubs. Spouses who are also Veterans, are permitted to serve as Guardians. These trips are dedicated to Veterans and the limited space and resources must be allocated towards them. In addition, our experience has shown that time spent with fellow Veterans can be helpful and healing.
Ideally, an adult child or grandchild could serve as a Guardian with the goal being that you share your military memories with younger generations.
The Guardian fee is $1400. We ask that this fee be paid by the pre-flight meeting or earlier.
